For your first ukulele lesson we will aim to tune the strings, hold the ukulele comfortably and learn 6 whole songs! We will talk a little bit about rhythm and have some fun! Here goes.
Your first chord
Hold the C chord and strum down on every syllable when you sing the lyrics. When you sing the faster part of [Hörst du nicht] die Glocken use a quicker down/up strum.
Picking the strings
Now let's learn another chord. C7.
Coconut - Harry Nilsson
Pick the individual strings of the ukulele with your plectrum. Always picking in a downwards motion.
Tomorrow Never Knows - The Beatles
Let's go back to strumming now. While holding a C chord make a continuous down/up strum and play along with this crazy, experimental Beatles song. You can also use C7 if you like too.
Your next chord
This chord is slightly harder than the C or C7 but you will use it A LOT. Here is G Major
Paperback Writer - The Beatles
This song uses the G chord for quite a long time before switching to the C chord. Strum down on every beat along to the song and see if you can make the changes on time. If the song is too fast you can slow it down in the YouTube settings
C'est La Vie - Chuck Berry
This awesome song from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack also only uses G and C Major. I've written it here as a continuous down/up strum but if you like to just do down strums that is also fine.
Molly's Lips - Nirvana
Switching between G and C will take a little practice but if you want to go faster you can use this great song to help you. With a down/up down/up strum on each chord you just repeat those 2 chords the whole way through. If the song is too fast you can slow it down in the settings to 0.75 or even 0.50 speed while you practice.
